There is GOOD NEWS Despite a Slow Economy

We’re all aware that the economy is tanking. We’ve heard it over and over again in the news media. If you are watching the news, all you see is gloom and doom. While it is true that there is a recession, it is also true that the news media has a model that believes that the more they report negative news the more money they make on advertising revenue. This is so repetitive that you sometimes wonder if there is any good news. I want you to know that below the surface there are glimmers of hope. Let me give you a few examples:

Did you know that:

· Time Magazine recently ran an article about a man who said he was happy he was laid off from his job? He was able to parlay his “misfortune” into an income of several thousand dollars a month

· Several people who formerly had careers on Wall Street are now embarking on a lucrative career as disk jockeys? There is even a school in New York that teaches them how to “scratch” records! This is by no means perfunctory; they are actually happy in their new careers

· During the month of March personal spending by Americans increased by an average of $9.00 per week. That doesn’t sound like much, but that’s $36.00 a month. Multiply that by 300 million Americans and you will begin to get an idea of how much money is being put back into the economy.

· Although some companies have gone out of business, this has opened the way for small business owners to thrive.

It's time to stop whining. The economy might be melting down like a pat of butter on a hot tin roof, but for some people — you, perhaps? — this could be a very good thing. Here’s why.

It’s easier and cheaper to start a potentially profitable business now than at any other time in history. Web-based businesses cost almost nothing to get off the ground and yet can turn into great moneymakers (if you work hard and are patient).

How do you get started? All that's required is a great idea for a product or service that will fill a need in the 21st century. It is best if your idea either makes people money or saves them money. It’s very important to have a passion for your venture. Launching now will make your company stronger later — you'll learn to survive on “fumes” until the economy improves.
